How to Place a Bid in an Auction

Placing Bids in EquipmentHub Auctions

Participating in auctions is straightforward once you understand the process. This guide will walk you through placing bids successfully.

Before You Bid

Ensure you have:

  • Completed account registration
  • Completed KYC verification
  • Reviewed the auction terms and conditions
  • Reviewed item details and inspection reports
  • Accepted the auction phase terms

Step-by-Step Bidding Process

Step 1: Browse Available Lots

Navigate to the Auctions section and browse available auction lots. Use filters to find equipment that matches your needs.

Step 2: Review Item Details

Before bidding, thoroughly review:

  • Item specifications and condition
  • Inspection reports (if available)
  • Photos and documentation
  • Starting bid and estimated value
  • Location and pickup requirements

Step 3: Accept Auction Terms

Before placing your first bid, you must read and accept the auction terms and conditions. This is a one-time requirement per auction phase.

Step 4: Place Your Bid

  1. Click on the lot you want to bid on
  2. Enter your bid amount (must meet or exceed the current bid plus minimum increment)
  3. Review your bid amount
  4. Click "Place Bid" to confirm

Bidding Rules

  • Bids are binding: Once placed, bids cannot be cancelled or retracted
  • Minimum increments: Your bid must meet the minimum increment above the current bid
  • Auto-bidding: You can set a maximum bid, and the system will bid on your behalf up to that amount
  • Outbid notifications: You'll be notified if someone outbids you

Bidding Strategies

  • Set a maximum: Determine your maximum bid before the auction starts
  • Don't bid too early: Early bids can drive up prices unnecessarily
  • Watch the clock: Be ready to bid near the closing time
  • Use proxy bidding: Set your maximum and let the system bid for you

After Placing a Bid

  • You'll receive a confirmation email
  • Monitor the auction in your "My Bids" section
  • You'll be notified if you're outbid
  • If you win, you'll receive instructions for payment and pickup

Winning an Auction

If you have the winning bid when the auction closes:

  1. You'll receive an email notification
  2. A pro-forma invoice will be generated
  3. Payment is required within 3-5 business days
  4. Once paid, we'll coordinate shipping or pickup
